Generations

Generations

Playwright and Director

“The scenes portray the complexity of the relationship between an immigrant mother and her Canadian daughter with striking accuracy, perfectly embodying the generational and cultural gaps between them.”

“Have you eaten yet? Here, I made you food. Come sit down, grab a bowl. Eat some more. You’ll be hungry later.”

– How do you thank your immigrant parent for all their sacrifices?

Every child of immigrants will tell you of this weight. The weight of responsibility they hold in their hearts every single day. The responsibility of privilege.

“Generations” is a thank you letter to our immigrant mothers. For their love, wisdom and sacrifices.

Playbill

Thank you to my incredible cast and crew. This show was built thanks to three incredible 1st and 2nd generation immigrants: Andrea Pavlovic, Uzoma Onyechekwa and Emily Sheeran. I like to say I created the menu, but they brought their own spices.

The playbill was designed by me. Headshots by Keegan Boulineau.

Rana Liu’s Generations (until Sunday at Monument-National), a touching conversation between an immigrant mom and her “privileged” daughter that ends with a bittersweet pandemic-era twist. - Jim Burke, Montreal Gazette

Press coverage

"Generations" opened with all six of our shows sold out at the St-Ambroise Montreal FRINGE Festival. A seventh show was added after our opening night and also sold out. An incredible feeling as a first time Playwright and Director to hit this milestone.

Our show was featured on CBCCBC/Radio-Canada, The Montreal Gazette, Montreal Rampage, Montreal Theatre Hub, CKUT 90.3FM and CJLO 1690AM
